Most helpful customer reviews on Amazon. I had great expectations from this book. But, for me at least, they were not met. There was one sentence which I never did figure out its meaning. The story is inspirational, but there are gaps as well.
But we learn little to nothing about his pastorship, his family life, or his personal role with the orphans, only his constant desire to expand without asking for any money. His dependence on God to provide everything needed was indeed inspirational. God answers prayers back then, and He's still at it today.
Exactly the book I needed to read at this point in my life. Jan 06, George Brainard rated it it was amazing. An amazing story of one man's simple yet profound faith and the surprising ways God answered his prayers. Sep 25, Matthias rated it it was amazing. It was published in Seattle Washington in The author describes how there were so many miracles in Georges life that it is impossible to list them all in one book.
The author does not make George look like the antagonist or protagonist. His life changes from stealing, gambling, and lying to taking in kids into his orphanage and praying for their everyday needs. The book is divided into 17 chapters. It is very well written and catchy. This is one of the best books I have read because it is so catching and because it is a true story. In the book he meets several other missionaries, one of them Jim elliot and a book has been written about him too.
They are all Christian Heroes and what is written about them has actually happened. It is about a man from Germany who was a bit of a rebellious teenager but found compelled to change his life through seeing a man humble himself before the Lord.

For decades this I've known of George Mueller for quite some time now, and when I told a friend of mine about him, she got this book and then let me borrow it which before I read it, I noticed my mom had the same book.
For decades this is how he survived and many lives were changed because of that faith. It was great to learn so much more about him than I had already known. Nov 10, Laura rated it really liked it Shelves: A story of a BIG God that works immeasurably more than we can ask through prayer. George Mueller was a man of a huge heart and the Lord did amazing things through his faith and asking.
I proved it to myself. It changed my life. And I want to convince other people. I think I can, if I can point to something God has done through prayer. A very simple read, however, it gives a good overview of his life and faith. Reminded me of God's constant presence in our hectic lives, and the promises of God to fulfill our needs. This book, albeit brief, was encouraging and a breath of fresh air. Would like to read George Mueller's autobiography as it may give me more insight into his personal reaction with waiting on and being blessed by God.

Apr 24, Kendall rated it really liked it Recommends it for: Great Christian book about the life of a troublemaker that turned his life around to God to be a missionary to Jews and orphans. It is strictly for Christians and even I think that it counts too hard on God,though you should. He's worse than a Jesus freak.
But it's a good message so it's fine with me. Overall, a good Christian book. Jul 19, Emma Oliver rated it it was amazing Shelves: George Mueller is a very inspirational man, his strong faith, and work for God in His life have influenced and encouraged me in my faith and life. This is an amazing true story of a man who rebelled against everyone but God.
He relied on God to provide for building orphanages to house children without asking anyone for money except God alone and He provided!!! What a man of faith and prayer!
Jan 24, Rebekah Anast rated it it was amazing Shelves: Mueller was a rebel. Family, church, religion - all of them rejected him because he followed God - and God alone. Mueller believed God was his provider, and if God did not provide, then he George would simply stop feeding and caring for the orphans of England. Needless to say, he never did.
