Their ages were never specified, but most people when in love do not have that kind of restraint. These human-like figures were described as pale; it was believed that they stalked and preyed on lone pedestrians. The commotion brought several residents who immediately launched a search for the aggressor, but he could not be found. As it did so, three things became immediately apparent. Plus, there's a birdie! Below, I heard the sound of the waves. I dipped into my vest pocket and pulled out a piece of candied ginger.

I am delighted to say that this book has proven me completely wrong and has opened the doors for me to explore more stories in this format. Replace playing card guards with automatons and steampunk cyborgs, a subtle nod to the Cheshire Cat in the form of a clockwork cat pet, and sprinklings of updated references here and there and you have a fitting story that even the ORIGINAL Alice would seem to fit in minus the occasional scene of exsanguination but still with the occasional beheading and you end up with a creepy yet delightful story.
I really, really enjoyed this story.
And even then, it gets a bit creepy and murky. A mature high-schooler who has some experience with R but not X rated movies would be a perfectly fine target for this book. In some ways, this is actually refreshing and adds some new wrinkles to the tale that would otherwise be lost. This is a darker re-telling of a steampunk Alice in Wonderland. However, I adored every part of it! I loved the sweet romance between William and Alice. Alas, now that it is over, and after those chills at the end, I really am happy I read this book and hope that one day this world is revisited.
I would recommend this book to any steampunk and fairy tale lover. Worth every bit of your time! Curiouser and Curiouser is part of a standalone steampunk fairy tale series. Alice in Wonderland re-imagined in Steampunk fashion; what a concept. I really, really enjoyed reading this book. It brought back childhood memories of the original version, but with a whole lot of new twists.

Alice is no longer the sweet and lovable daughter brought up in comfort and the finer things in life. She is now a street wise young woman forced to survive on her skills to keep herself and frail sister alive. Jabberwocky dies leaving his illegal enterprise to Alice, but she no longer wants to live this life. Caterpillar takes over and finds things are not as simple as he once thought.
The Queen of Hearts is a procurer of unusual things who dabbles in the dark mystic arts. Caterpillar must appease the Queen or lose his life. Alice is the only person who can save them all. This isn't your garden variety Alice in Wonderland. The author has quite an imaginative retelling here. I like that there were some references to real figures such as Elizabeth Bathoryand the real Koh-I-noor diamond, which I googled and went off on a research tangent Queen of Hearts has some not so nice tricks up her sleeves.
Anyway,Alice is called upon by an old flame ,and like,a moth, she is drawn back in to a life she thought she'd left behind. One person found this helpful. The story is so well written. Every detail can be pictured so vividly.
I had a hard time putting it down. I loved the characters and the story. Worth the read for sure. I loved how this story retweeked the original Alice in Wonderland. It was exciting to see how both stories came together.
I would have loved to see a bit more of Caterpillar with Alice, but regardless it was a great story worth losing sleep over. What a great twist on Alice in Wonderland! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. You meet all your favorite characters portrayed in a whole new way. The steampunk twists add greatly to the story and keep it moving along at a quick pace. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader copy of this book and loved it!
I highly recommend it to you.
