A member of the nation's foremost paranormal forensic team, Jenna Duffy has made a career out of investigating the inexplicable. Yet nothing could prepare her for the string of slayings once again plaguing Lexington House-or for the chief suspect, a boy barely old enough to drive, much less kill. With the young man's life on the line, Jenna must team up with attorney Samuel Hall to pinpoint who-or what-is taking the lives of those who get too close to the past.
But everything they learn brings them closer to the forces of evil stalking this tortured ground. A Krewe of Hunters Novella. See How She Dies. Hold Back the Dark. Rumble on the Bayou. I love the way the series combines elements of both supernatural and ordinary ordinary happenings. She weaves them together so seamlessly. The Evil Inside delves into the horrific past of Salem, Massachusetts, the famous witch trials and other horrific crimes that took place there. Sam has traveled to his childhood town for a bit of rest and relaxation after successfully winning a hard-fought trial in Boston, but wha Heather Graham's newest installment in the Krewe of Hunters still has me hooked! Sam has traveled to his childhood town for a bit of rest and relaxation after successfully winning a hard-fought trial in Boston, but what he finds is a teenager standing naked in the road and covered in blood.
Jenna Duffy has come home following a call from her Uncle Jamie. They both get caught up in the case of Malachi Smith, a young boy who is found covered in the blood of his family after they have been hacked to death. While everyone in town has already found him guilty in their own minds, Uncle Jamie begs Sam and Jenna to help him prove Malachi innocent.
Is there a killer still running loose, or has the ghost of old Mr Lexington come back to murder? I loved that Graham combined the historical story of the Salem Witch Trials with a modern-day murder, and I'm looking forward to future stories with the Krewe! Well wow this grabbed me by the short and curly's and kept me totally in it's grip to the very last page.
Like all the books in this series it is knee deep in history and actual historic events, I am not a fan of historical fiction but this kept me interested and I loved how correlation was drawn with the events happening in the story. I guessed who did it but I was still surprised by the reveal and what a reveal it was.
The love element was light and was kept just on the right side of warm but Well wow this grabbed me by the short and curly's and kept me totally in it's grip to the very last page. The love element was light and was kept just on the right side of warm but never overshadowed the thriller aspect. There is something about these books that make you love the characters they are quirky and good at their jobs. I will be reading more soon.
First time reading this author. I enjoyed the setting of the story, being the time of year it is. The storyline was a bit predictable. You knew who was going to fall for who. It, still, was a relaxing read and good story of "who done it". Nov 04, Beanse rated it did not like it Shelves: You got one star because Good reads has rate to put out negative star ratings! Finally finished the worst series on the planet.
Save yourself some time and find another series to read. I may never forgive Graham for this abomination she called a series!
Here is my complete review: Jun 20, Karen Thompson rated it it was amazing. As all her books are. I liked getting to know more about Jenna.
Jan 28, Sabrina rated it did not like it. Jul 02, Lynnell Donnelly rated it did not like it. I cannot tell you how many typo's I found in this book This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I enjoyed the story, the mystery and some of the characters. Jenna seemed competent, able to do her job and didn't need saving all the time. The all the time is actually what really bothered me.
She goes off, admittedly with one team member, but not telling the rest of her partners where. That where, of course, is a haunted house where multiple murders happened.
Despite th I enjoyed the story, the mystery and some of the characters. Despite the warnings of a ghost she ends up tied up and only sort of holds her own until she is heroically saved by the main male character.
I really wish that it hadn't ended this way. I find that having her be competent is ruined by the end. There was no reason for it to be written this way.
Jun 13, Carissa Crabb rated it liked it. I'm in the middle of a reread on The Evil Inside. What strikes me most about this book is how completely off Heather Graham's math is throughout the book. When we first meet Sam Hall, in the middle of the road at night, he describes Detective John Alden looking to be around fifty years old. He also says that he and Alden played football together in school.
A suspect slaps an FBI special agent and gets away with it? Come to find out, the boy is Malachi Smith who lives in Lexington House. For as long as it has stood overlooking New England's jagged coastline, Lexington House has been the witness to madness and murder. There was no reason for it to be written this way. Jenna Duffy has come home following a call from her Uncle Jamie. You got one star because Good reads has rate to put out negative star ratings! Your display name should be at least 2 characters long.
Later, when visiting the high school he claims he had graduated fourteen years before. Eighteen the age of most graduates plus fourteen th I'm in the middle of a reread on The Evil Inside. Eighteen the age of most graduates plus fourteen the years since graduation do not equal fifty. A little while later, Sam claims he is "more than a decade older than the fresh-faced twenty-something" secretary of the councilman.
Sam did not really believe in the paranormal and ghosts but when Jenna comes into his life he had to rethink everything. He was at first not at all sure of her abilities, to the point that he was almost rude. But when he saw her work. The doubt starts creeping in. I loved seeing him go from a total skeptic to a full believer. The story is set in Salem City and The Witch trials was never far. It was refreshing to read about the Witch trials from the mouth of the characters but became more of a hi Sam did not really believe in the paranormal and ghosts but when Jenna comes into his life he had to rethink everything.
It was refreshing to read about the Witch trials from the mouth of the characters but became more of a hindrance later on with it being repeated every now and then in the first half of the book. Oct 27, Sarah rated it did not like it. I can give a lot of leeway to a romance novel, but this goes beyond what I can sustain. When a woman expresses something she's angry about and a man's response is "that's not why you're here" and giving her a "coercive" kiss, that's assault, not romance.
How gross to actually describe it that way. How many offensive horror movie tropes can you shove into one book: It's the new millennium, surely we're past queers as murderers. Surely we're past the madness of mothers. Some basic nuance would be so easy. Aug 13, Linda rated it really liked it. This was a great book about Salem, Massachusetts and the city's history.
Murder is murder no matter what century but with the investigators and their skills, the murder of the Smith family by an ax slinging ghost was not typical. Jenna Duffy was summoned by her Uncle because of a couple of ax murders in the last six months but the day before she arrived, the whole Smith family were killed and Sam Hall was the one to come upon their son covered in blood in the middle of the road.
Sam was a famous This was a great book about Salem, Massachusetts and the city's history. Sam was a famous attorney that Jenna's uncle persuaded to take the young boy's case because he did not believe he was guilty. This story has some unique twists and turns that makes it very good. Are you interested in the history of Salem, Massachusetts, during Halloween? For me, the history was the best part of this book.
That is the only reason why I give it three stars. Sadly, this series has a lot of errors in it, and there is a lot of mixed up information. I feel that this series needs a twist to spice things up. I am going to continue with the series because of my love of history and Are you interested in the history of Salem, Massachusetts, during Halloween?
I am going to continue with the series because of my love of history and the paranormal aspect. May 03, Sharon Gallup rated it it was amazing. Well the author did it again.
How many times have you ever been in a old house and could feel there was something there but you just couldn't see it but you could feel it. A house can hold in the energy of evil or love depending on how life was lived in it.
But in this case Evil was so great that the krewe group was called in to see if it was the spirit world or was it human. Nov 04, Vicki rated it it was amazing Shelves: Heather Graham is one of my favorite authors!! This one was awesome! Starts right off with a naked boy covered in blood standing in the middle of the road and a lawyer in a Jag stops before hitting him and calls the cops.
It goes on from there with more murders. It takes place in Salem, MA and just like in past lies and more lies condemn the innocent and hide the guilty. Great read, just wonderful. Jun 27, V rated it it was ok. Audiobook Narrator 5 Stars, Superb performance! Jenna Duffy are you really a FBI agent? You're walking at night in a Cemetery without a gun and the killer is still on the lose?
So many things wrong with this story, I know it's fiction ghost and all, but at least portrait the FBI agent more realist, professional and not so dumb. Can a Ghost keep a innocent out of jail Forever? Series gets 5 gold stars plus more. A seat of your pants story that will have you coming back again and again for Heather Grahams series Krewe Hunters.
