Sometimes when I was in school I would have problems using a specific word or seeing it in a sentence and not quite understand it. I believe that this book is also helpful to every student and adult that are trying to improve there vocabulary. I definite I won this book from GoodReads.

I definitely did grasp some new words, there were plenty of hard words and some words I never even heard of. It has an excellent fast review of the words with the definitions only. Finally a mini quiz with paragraphs and you would have to figure out which word fits best in the paragraph. Highly Recommended for students that are trying to practice for there SAT. I actually received two books. I believe Direct Hits did a excellent job on both. I highly recommend them, not just for people studying for their exams but for individuals who just want to expand their own vocabulary and challenge themselves to learn. I like how the books are set up with the word, a definition and an example.

Often the examples are related to pop-culture which would make the words much easier to associate them to their meaning. Even though I won't be taking the SAT's again,and the words were familiar to me, I really enjoyed reading the definitions and ass I won these books through a GoodReads giveaway.

There were good tips about using root words and other clues to help dissect words which may be used on the SAT's. I love having a new list of words to pull from for vocabulary examples, and "The Toughest Vocabulary" section was a winner for my kids. I liked that we could confidently know that they were "Level 5" SAT words - instead of me randomly guessing test-maker's difficulty.

The modern examples were very helpful in explaining, and quite a few made the kids laugh.

My only suggestion would be to have quizzes aft I won this book via GoodReads, and was very excited to find a way to use it in the classroom. She's only a freshman, but her being my youngest of three I can tell you, it's never to early to start expanding your child's vocabulary in preparation for the SATs!

Anyhow, I started reading through the book to write a review and found myself hooked. I'm an author, and I love finding new and interesting words. This book is full of them! It's easy to use. I have not spent much time with it but it appears to be in a good format. I plan to spend some time with this book because my quick skim showed words I didn't know. A quick glance through had me laughing at the blurbs used to introduce the words - looks to me like something that could easily be read to the entire family over dinner.

I have graduate level exams to prepare for, and this book has certainly helped me study for them.
