Sometimes when I was in school I would have problems using a specific word or seeing it in a sentence and not quite understand it. I believe that this book is also helpful to every student and adult that are trying to improve there vocabulary. I definite I won this book from GoodReads.
I definitely did grasp some new words, there were plenty of hard words and some words I never even heard of. It has an excellent fast review of the words with the definitions only. Finally a mini quiz with paragraphs and you would have to figure out which word fits best in the paragraph. Highly Recommended for students that are trying to practice for there SAT. I actually received two books. I believe Direct Hits did a excellent job on both. I highly recommend them, not just for people studying for their exams but for individuals who just want to expand their own vocabulary and challenge themselves to learn. I love having a new list of words to pull from for vocabulary examples, and "The Toughest Vocabulary" section was a winner for my kids. I liked that we could confidently know that they were "Level 5" SAT words - instead of me randomly guessing test-maker's difficulty.
The modern examples were very helpful in explaining, and quite a few made the kids laugh.
My only suggestion would be to have quizzes aft I won this book via GoodReads, and was very excited to find a way to use it in the classroom. I have tutored students for the SAT previously and would have been elated to have had access to this book. I liked, and think teens will enjoy, the trendy examples that use movie, book and TV references.

She's only a freshman, but her being my youngest of three I can tell you, it's never to early to start expanding your child's vocabulary in preparation for the SATs!
Anyhow, I started reading through the book to write a review and found myself hooked. I'm an author, and I love finding new and interesting words. This book is full of them! It's easy to use.
