Too many Americans think "terrorist" every time they hear the word Palestinian. But as Zaru points out Palestinians are just like everyone else with hopes and dreams of a better future.

She goes into detail regarding the harsh occupation by the Israeliesthe harrassment, the daily cruelities, the humiliation they go through. It is very similar to the way white cops treat blacks here in the USA.

Zaru points out that as a Palestinian Christian she is often a voice crying in the wilderness. Most American churches are pro-Zionist and ignore her plight and her people's plight. But Zaru makes a strong case for America to be more even-handed and really push for a just settlement where all can live in peace.

Israel can not continue to deny the Palestinians a state of their own. There is no other choice unless they want to go down the barbaric path of ethnic cleansing. If both sides followed Zaru's advice their would be peace.

The book gives a very intimate look into the every day world of life in the West Bank. It is a world filled with the violence of occupation by a military force. Yet, kit is also a life filled with a sense of belonging and place, a life centered on one's neighbors and faith. This world view opened my eyes to a side of the Palestinian - Israeli conflict that we do not often see in America. See all 11 reviews. Most recent customer reviews. But there can be no reconciliation without attention to the dimensions of the political, economic, psychosocial and spiritual. Insisting on no reconciliation without justice, she turns the spotlight on injustice done to women in Palestinian society and prejudice against Islam. Peace with justice is highlighted as a future vision for all peoples of the Holy Lands, in a spirit of hope, compassion and forgiveness. Not only is this small book a passionate cry of pain-filled hope; it is a voice that cannot be ignored. Not only is this an explosive issue affecting millions, a longstanding issue of human rights, but the UN, the US and Britain are already involved and implicated.

How can we not respond to her appeal if we are to retain any integrity?

She is very clear that the Oslo so-called Peace Agreement was no peace at all, as — among other points — it left Israel in control of the economy. It is a collection gathered from her speaches so it can make it a bit disjointed at times but it's great for reading a chapter at a time with a group for discussion.
