I picked this book up because I wanted to see if the books by Gill Lewis were good and they were. I finished Sky Hawk because it was one of the best books, that don't have alot fo action, I've ever read. I would recommend this book to people who likes to read books that are heart warming because this one was. I think this is a great book for children to read and includes many great topics that can be discussed in class such as friendship, bullying, caring and loss. It then becomes a lovely story of how they need to protect them from other people and help them in their journey.

It could also be used in art where they could draw a picture of how the Osprey look and perhaps also in science where they could compare other features of birds to how the Osprey look, and how they are adapted. To grab the children's attention and use this book in a lesson, you could take the children out of the classroom in different groups and look at how birds fly around the area e.

Then perhaps to write their own version about how they would envision an osprey to fly. Jane Scholey An excellent review. Sep 13, Jul 20, Anna Branson rated it it was amazing. A - May - Zing!

I really enjoyed Sky Hawk. The whole story was very captivating and it had a great plot. Callum meets a girl called Iona who find a Hawk on their farm and are determined to keep it safe. There are past events that make Callum's family worry about the fact that he is spending time with Iona.

Callum watches the journey of the Hawk as it travels to Africa for the winter. Along the way, Callum starts talking with a girl who lives in Africa and agrees to keep the Hawk safe. One thing that I really en I really enjoyed Sky Hawk. One thing that I really enjoyed about Sky Hawk was that towards the middle, there were multiple events that happened that the reader would not expect. For example, Iona, a main character died in the middle of the book. It was unexpected because she was perfectly fine and all of a sudden she passed away.

One thing that I did not really like were the characters. They were quite ordinary so it would have been nice if they had something unique about their personality. This book also explores character and development in which children can use techniques within the book to develop their own writing development. Unfortunately in my own opinion, I was not a massive fan of reading the book, this mainly is due to lack of interest within the topic, and also I felt the story lacked significant moments and structure that made me want to read on.

On the other hand I will most likely read this story again for children. Oct 13, Joff! I really liked this story for numerous reasons. Firstly, I liked the fact there was a tough, strong-willed female role model — a shame she unexpectedly died. The story itself is well-written and has many unexpected twists and happenings - in particular, the whole Jeneba story. I would definitely read this to a class and try and extract further work from it.

So I have a whole rant about the character of Iona, the MPDG's baby sister, but I would rate this book much higher if she hadn't completely pointlessly died, apparently just so that Callum can feel sad and then hang out with his proper male friends again. The rest of the plot wouldn't even have to change for her to have been seriously ill and then get better.

These really tired, boring tropes just left me with a bad taste in my mouth. View all 4 comments. However I fancied a change and after reading some good reviews I gave it a go. I am so happy I did, it is a thoroughly heart warming read. Apr 10, Andrea rated it really liked it. It is a story based at KS2 children where the characters are eleven years old. The story is set in a small farming village in the mountainous regions of Scotland. It is about three boys which go to school together and have been friends for years who meet a girl called Iona who has recently moved to the village.

This is very rare and exciting and she shares the confidential news with Callum and they visit the nest a lot to keep an eye on the bird.

Powered by a single J65 turbojet engine with two side-mounted air intakes, the Skyhawk proved agile but not especially fast, with a maximum speed of around miles per hour—just below the speed of sound. The early-model Skyhawks lacked a radar for detecting and engaging enemy fighters, but at short range could employ heat-seeking Sidewinder missiles and two twenty-millimeter cannons for self-defense.

But that was just as well: The Skyhawk was cheap, reliable and effective, so the Navy and Marines ordered hundreds of them, with production eventually totaling at 2, in a wide variety of models.
